Fisher-Price Imaginext Supernova Battle Rover Review

The Imaginext 2-in-1 Supernova Battle Rover from Fisher-Price hit our shores just before Christmas 2014, and immediately featured at the top of many toddler wish lists. It’s a big beast that doubles as a playset and a push-along toy, and with it, kids can play at saving the world.

Designed for the 3+ age range because of small parts, it’s big, bold and bright enough to appeal to any preschool child. The ‘supernova’ part of the name relates to space travel – it’s a land-based dock for a space shuttle, and forms the centre of operations for a battle of the universe against evil in outer space.

Imaginext Supernova with childSince it’s made by Fisher-Price, you’ll know there are going to be some educational or developmental aspects, and there’s certainly plenty to do here. Pushing the toy around can improve kids’ mobility skills, while the whole design of it will stretch their imagination. It has plenty of moving parts and things that detach, so kids learn basic construction, fitting things together, and fine motor skills with hand movements. For example, they can dock a space shuttle in it.

The space shuttle has a control panel for kids to activate the projectile launchers. There’s also a smaller vehicle and three figures that inhabit the Battle Rover, for kids to play with. They get two astronauts and a gnarly-looking one-eyed alien.

Plus you get some construction toys – a crane, drill and saw blade (plastic, of course) that pull out of the playset, and an awesome claw with a pincher on the end of it, that kids can use for picking things up. Great for putting their toys away at the end of the day!

This giant vehicle has six large wheels, so it’s plenty stable enough for small children. They will also want to put their other toys onto it, both figures and vehicles, and carry them around. There are other Imaginext figures you can buy, but most toys can be loaded onto the top!

The 19 different lights, 200 sound effects and the projectile launcher require power, so you’ll need 7 AA batteries (not supplied) to get the most out of this toy.

Little kids will have a blast playing with the alien detecting area on this toy and setting up their battles to save humanity – or whatever else their weird imaginations lead them to play. All in all, the Imaginext Supernova Battle Rover is the perfect ‘big gift’ for any toddler. Have your camera on hand for the open-mouthed amazement when they first set eyes on it!
