Disney Infinity 2.0 Starter Pack Marvel Superheroes Review
The original release of the Disney Infinity video game included characters from Pirates of the Caribbean, Monsters University and The Incredibles – i.e. Disney movie characters. The game was a huge hit and Disney have now come out with version 2.0 – a whole new game, with new characters from Marvel superheroes comics.
The Disney Infinity 2.0 starter pack includes the characters of Iron Man, Black Widow and Thor, and more figures are available to order separately.
One of the great things about Disney Infinity is that you have physical characters to play with, even when the game is switched off. Many parents limit video gaming time for young kids, so this helps to console them when the screen is blank.
How It Works
The way it works is this: when everything is connected up correctly (which is simple to do), kids put one of the new Disney Infinity characters on the special base, and the character appears on the TV screen. Through the gaming system, the child can control the character and act out an interactive game, building their co-ordination and imagination.
So what about compatibility? If you already own Disney Infinity 1.0, can you just buy the new characters?
The answer, unfortunately, is no – you do need the new 2.0 game to play with the new Marvel superhero characters. The version 1.0 characters of Jack Sparrow, Mr Incredible and Sulley will work in the new game in Toy Box mode (but not in Worlds) and users report that even the power bases are the same, but the game itself is different.
This is one reason why we’re only giving it 4 stars. The other is that we think it would have been good to include at least one of the real well known superheroes like Spiderman. You can get a Disney Infinity 2.0 Spiderman playset pack but you have to buy the game too.
In fact, the new Disney Infinity game represents a major software upgrade. The characters can be customized in new ways (e.g. you can give Iron Man different flying abilities) and in the Worlds, they can enter new pre-set environments where kids can make them interact, battle and have adventures. There’s almost no limit to the game scenarios that a child can invent with different characters.
Kids from around age 6 will surely love it, although the age ratings for kids’ video games are often higher than the age of the kids who actually want to play, especially in the USA, usually because of violence in the game. Keeping that in mind, it’s sure to be a big hit and kids will want more and more.
