Ninjago Lego Garmatron Review
Children who enjoy constructing things and holding pretend battles with their toys will love this Lego set. Even kids who haven’t seen Ninjago on television will be able to think up plenty of games.
The story behind this set is that the villainous General Kozu (one of the included mini figures) has stolen the Zane’s ice blade weapon and is carrying it off in the Garmatron vehicle. Zane chases after him on the Ice Spider, dodging the missiles that General Kozu shoots from the Garmatron.
The Garmatron doubles as a prison, so when General Kozu is captured he can be locked up in prison as all villains deserve to be 🙂 The prison can also be used for hostages, such as the third figure, a swordsman.
There’s a summary of this story plus detailed instructions for building the Garmatron and Ice Spider included in the pack. It’s a 320-piece pack which gives children a lot of potential. There are also some nice details in the design of the pieces. And of course it can all be incorporated with other Lego Ninjago sets.
Build and play sets are great for encouraging imaginative play and developing fine motor skills (where kids learn to use their fingers more accurately for detailed work).
What You Need To Know
The Lego Garmatron is marked suitable for age 8-14 and we think that’s about right. Younger children could have difficulty putting it together and since the pieces are easily knocked off during play, they could find it frustrating to play with even if you helped them build it. Make sure you keep the instructions because you’ll need them again if the Garmatron breaks apart.
This is one of Lego’s best sets in the immensely popular Ninjago series, taking creativity and imaginative play to a high level. Even adults might enjoy playing with it – some adults, anyway! The pieces are well designed and we can imagine it becoming a collector’s item in years to come. All in all, a great choice for a child in the 8+ target age range.
