Transformers Age of Extinction Stomp & Chomp Grimlock Review
Kids will love this big bad beast! The two-in-one Transformers Age of Extinction Stomp & Chomp Grimlock figure is huge – as a robot, it stands over 50 cm tall. It changes in just a few seconds from the massive robot into a scary dinosaur monster, with a simple one-step transformation movement that young kids should be able to manage with no trouble.
The Transformers Age of Extinction Grimlock gives kids plenty of potential for imaginative play. Despite appearances, Grimlock is a ‘good guy’, who battles the evil Decepticons in the movie.
When battle’s on, his eyes light up and he can use any of his pop-out weaponry to fight the bad guys. As a dinosaur, his massive jaws can clamp down and chomp on anything that gets in his way. As a robot, he can stomp and use the sword that comes as part of the package.
You also get an Optimus Prime figure who can ride the Transformers Stomp and Chomp Grimlock when he’s in dinosaur mode. Optimus Prime looks very small in the picture, but that’s only because Grimlock is so big.
He’s a one step changer, transforming from dinosaur mode to robot and back with a simple pull of a lever. This is great for younger kids who struggle with complex transformations. He’s also durable and should stand up to some rough play without falling apart.
This toy was one of Hamleys’ top 10 toys for Christmas 2014. You can order other one step Transformers separately. Those that come from the Age of Extinction line are best for pairing up with the Stomp and Chomp Grimlock, although they may not all be so big! They’ll have their own weapons, lights and sound effects.
Grimlock is fierce in either mode, ready to wage war on any evil enemy. His weapons pop out, making laser-attack sounds, and when he’s a dinosaur, he can growl at his foes.
The only downside is the cost – this Transformer is not cheap, but it’s a big toy. On the other hand, assembly is straightforward – at least for adults. Kids will need help putting it together if you haven’t done that before wrapping it. There are instructions for assembly but it’s pretty obvious.
It comes with the required two AAA batteries, but you’ll want more on hand because as usual with toys, the supplied batteries are not great quality and don’t last long. Rechargeables are recommended to save money.
Transformers are great for kids who love the movies and toys – or for adults who like to collect them. The Transformers Age of Extinction Stomp and Chomp Grimlock’s one-step transformation means that he’s perfect for younger fans, and you can bet he’ll be featuring in many wish lists this year!
