VTech Baby Toot-Toot Train Station Playset Review
VTech’s Toot Toot train station playset is a very good first train set for little ones. The “baby” in the name is a little misleading because kids under one year old might not get very much out of it, but it’s great for age 12 months to just before school age.
There are over 30 pieces of train track that you can set up in different configurations. You get a sheet showing several layouts that you can set up for your child if they’re too young to do it themselves. The joins are good, the durable pieces snap together and stay together well.
Some of the pieces are what VTech call SmartPoint locations and when a train moves over these, a sound will be played. There are also flashing lights and even songs. There are large push buttons and you can even select different languages.
One of the best interactive sections is the cargo area. Here the train stops and your child is told, “Time to load the cargo!” There’s a ball that they can put into the cargo carriage and the train continues on its way.
There’s a station of course, a loop and a hill that kids can send trains up using a hand crank. This gives an opportunity to improve their motor skills and hand co-ordination, although for children who can’t manage this yet, there’s an override option so they won’t get frustrated.
The playset is battery operated and you get the first set of 3 batteries included. This will run the train set but you need another 2 for sound effects in the tower. The supplied batteries are not top quality but will get you started. Rechargeable batteries are recommended to save on costs.
The only downside to the VTech Toot-Toot Drivers Train Station that we’ve noticed is when younger children/older babies try to push the train along and that doesn’t work. The wheels won’t turn. They need to get used to having it run by itself on its tracks.
This is a big train set and the price is excellent for everything you get. Kids seem to love it and we can certainly recommend it.
